This paper was presented by Mr A. E. Charles, Chief Agronomist, at the ANZAAS Congress, Port Moresby, in August, 1970. Mr Charles emphasized that he ivas reviewing the work of a large number of officers of the Department of Agriculture, Stock and Fisheries.
