A code of practice for hygiene in registered cocoa stores
Abstract
The quality of cocoa beans is partly affected by the way they are stored after fermentation and bagging. Dirty and untidy cocoa stores provide food and shelter for rats, mice, insects and birds. All of these can damage and reduce the quality, and value of cocoa. Cocoa kept in stores which are not properly waterproof and are poorly drained can get wet and may be completely spoiled by moulds and insects. This code of practice sets out the basic requirements for hygiene and pest control in registered cocoa stores in Papua New Guinea.
