Abstract

The sheep project in Papua New Guinea Highlands has encountered lots of health related problems. The nematodes, Haemonchus and Trichostrongylus spp and the liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica, are the most significant. Foot problems and fly strike are also common. Occasionally, deaths have been associated with toxaemia of some sort. It is difficult to make definitive diagnosis on these deaths because the diagnostic laboratory doesn't perform such tests. Poor management also contributed to the problem at the later stages.
