Madang Province

Abstract

The land area is 29 150 km2 with a narrow mainland coastline of 354 km. Inland the rugged central ranges rise 4 510 m dividing the coast from the extensive Ramu valley. The lower part of the Ramu River runs northwards towards the coast, through extensive swamp areas. The offshore islands are Manam, Karkar, Bagabag and Long Island.
