Extension of the known range of the Splendid Astrapia Astrapia splendissima

Abstract

On 25 and 26 March 1989 a female Splendid Astrapia Astrapia splendissima was seen near the bailey bridge, above Ambua Lodge, Tari Gap, Southern Highlands Province. Thess sightings extend the known range to at least the Tari Gap area. Visitors to Ambua Lodge and the Tari Gap should carefully check all astrapias.
