Soft song vocal mimicry in the Brown Oriole Oriolus szalayi of New Guinea

Abstract

Ten instances are cited of soft song mimicry by the Brown Oriole Oriolus szalayi observed within an 8 km radius of Popondetta, Oro Province, PNG. Because of the nature of this mimicry a new term - soft song mimicry (SSM) - is suggested to describe it.
