Abstract

In order fully to apprehend our subject, it is necessary to look back nearly 100 years and pass briefly in review the great industrial era of the nineteenth century, making the development of agricultural science and practice during that period of remarkable material prosperity and suggesting wherein it has proved inadequate to ride the storm in which those years culminated-—a storm as unforeseen as it has proved disastrous to agriculture.
