Abstract

Papain is the dried latex tapped from the papaw fruit. This extract contains certain medicinal properties which are invaluable in the manufacture of various digestive preparations. The increasing demand for papain has induced planters in East Africa and other tropical areas to investigate the possibilities of the production of papain. Recently, small supplies of this commodity from these areas were reported to have reached the London market.
