Abstract

It has been estimated that 10 per cent, of the World’s agricultural potential is lost annually by the ravages of pests and diseases. Whilst the Territory of Papua and New Guinea is relatively free from many important pests and diseases, losses from these causes are still considerable, both in the field and in stored agricultural produce. A review is given here of the investigations in pest control carried out in this Territory by the Department of Agriculture, Stock and Fisheries in the postwar period, together with an indication of some of the more serious problems yet to he solved.
