Abstract

Many seeds of European vegetables are being distributed amongst the Native people of Papua and New Guinea to plant in their gardens.
This is done in order to introduce more variety into their meals. Whilst some of these vegetables are good nutritionally and could considerably improve the diet of the people, it must be borne in mind that in many areas indigenous plants already growing and being eaten are superior in food value to the introduced kinds.
