Abstract

The production of high yielding strains of plants or animals is usually brought about by selection with or without preliminary cross-breeding. The importance of natural rubber from the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis is very great in spite of its relatively late appearance in the world as a major economic crop, and a great deal of investigation and experimental work have been carried out with this crop. The results have been most encouraging. It is an established fact that trees from clonal seed or bud-grafts can yield several times as much rubber as unselected seedlings.
