Abstract

The analysis of soil and plant materials from areas where coconut palms are in various stages of decline, shows that the potassium status of the palms and soil is closely related to the degree of decline and the severity of the deficiency symptoms. There is evidence that the potassium reserves of large areas of the coral-derived soils in New Ireland are inadequate for the satisfactory growth of coconut palms.
