Abstract

In 1946, an Army Veterinary Survey Unit described a disease of pigs in the Highlands of New Guinea which closely resembled anthrax (unpublished report). Came (1958), who examined cultures of the organism derived from cases investigated by the Survey Unit, considered it to be a strain of Bacillus anthracis of lower than normal virulence.
