Abstract

Pepper (Piper nigrmn) is normally propagated vegetatively. Sickey (1968) reported 95.7 per cent success using the 'peat-pot' method. However, the majority of recent authors recommend the planting of cuttings into unshaded gardens, and under such conditions it is imperative that the cuttings be hardened off before field planting. The reaction of the pepper cuttings to hardening off appears to depend largely on the method of propagation.
