New Scolytidae and Platypodidae from the Papuan Subregion. 299- Contribution to the Morphology and Taxonomy of the Scolytoidea.

Abstract

Descriptions are given of fourteen species of Scolytidae: Margadillius papuanus, Cryphalus fugax, Taphroterus rosseli, Xyleborus abbreviatipennis, Xyleborus analis, Xyleborus annexus, Xyleborus chimbui, Xyleborus cruciatus, Xyleborus gorggae, Xyleborus granulipes, Xyleborus operosus, Xyleborus optatus, Xyleborus sus, and Xyleborus vestigator, and seven Platypodidae: Crossotarsus semicinctus, Crossotarsus ventrosus, Baiocis imitatrix, Platypus associates, Platypus excellens, Platypus negatus and Platypus validus. A description is also given for the first time of the female of Platypus strenuus Schedl. A neiv subspecies of Scolytidae, Xyleborus emarginatus Eichhoff semicircular is nov. subsp. is described.
